These stairs take you down into the gorge. |

Before you start down these stairs to explore the bottom of the gorge, there are some
facts that you should know.
First, you should realize that the bottom of the gorge is fairly rugged--there are
no groomed trails. Also, the stairs only get you part way down. At the
bottom of the stairs you still have to scramble down a few more feet of rough terrain
before you reach the level of the river.
Lastly--go ahead and count the number of steps on those stairs, or use a nice
long tape measure. But, trust me, those stairs are a lot longer going up than they were when
going down. So before you start down, consider if you are in condition for this, or if you
have the right footwear for scrambling over muddy, rocky ground.
